FIRES

BLAZE AT . WHANG All A. STORE AND RESIDENCE BURNED DOWN. On Saturday, night, between 9 and 10 o’clock- the \\ ii'angara stoic and the. adjoining residence, owned and occupied by Mr. William Bright, Whangara. were burned down. A farewell' dance .was being conducted at the pah in honor ot the schoolmaster, and the three occupants oi the house, Mr. and Mrs. Bright aud . their son, Mrs. Bright, who managed the store, .were among the guests. The blaze was first seen at about 9.45 p.m. from a window of the -Whangara Hotel by Mrs. >*. Lamiigan, wife of the proprietor. Mr. Lannigan promptly gathered all tile available help and repaired to the scene only to find the flames completely, in charge. Nothing was saved. The buildings were insured in the New Zealand Insurance Co.’s Office, but the figures were not available last night.
