DEATH OF RUGBY PIONEER.
(Special t 0 tho Times.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 1. The death k reported from England of Air. AV. \\ . Robinson, formerly a leading figure in Auckland sporting circles. Me was one of the pioneers of Rugby football in the province and, with others, drafted the rules of the game from memory. His services to the game,, bote as’ coach and a player, were invaluable. in 1870 he played {for Thames against Auckland and represented the province in IS-6 ami 1877. As a cricketer, Robinson had a long and fruitful record, both as a member of the Auckland club and skipper of numerous representative teams. He was one of the fcundei.of the Auckland Amateur Athletic Association, which held its first carnival in 1877. Although ho leP Auckland in 1889, AH. Robinson never lost interest in sport in 1 Impart, of the world, and lie was urnof the first to welcome the 1924 Aj: Blacks, when they went to England. He contributed much material of historical value to New Zealand football and wrote a book on its “development and small beginnings-
