TWO YEARS’ DETENTION FOR FALSE PRETENCES. (Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. July 19. On nine charges of false pretences, obtaining a total of £7l from firms, Alfred Douglas Grant, 56. a laborer, was sentenced this morning to two years' reformative detention. He had previously been convicted at Gisborne. THF.FT OF SHIP’S CITLF.KV. (Press Association.) DUNEDIN. July 19. Tn the Police Court. William Sydney King, 26. pleaded guilty to stealing a sheet, knives, forks and spoons' valued at £l. the property of the Union Steam Ship Co. The chief detective said the accused was a steward, and when he left the ship lie took the stolen property. The cutlery had been recovered. Steila Carr Bush, aged 20. charged with incurring a liability to William Andrew Hurd ley, general importer. to the extent cf £SO, and obtaining credit by fraud, was sentenced to two years’ detention in a Borstal Institution. The girl 3obtain'ed five frocks, stating she was a relative of a valued client of the firm. Evidence was given that she was earning £3 weekly and paying fifty shillings weekly for a Hat. .
