A Darwin message* states that fierce fighting occurred aboard a’n auxiliary ketch near the Victoria River, when three aboriginal members of the crew attacked Constable Kcnnett, a Malay and a .Japanese, who formed the. rest of the vessel’s complement. Constable Kennett was struck with a tomahawk while asleep, but was fortunate enough to knock' hi> assailant overboard.
The other two aboriginals attacked the Malay and the Japanese. The former was clubbed and fell into the sen, while the, Japanese, was slashed wiih a k'nito. fn the desperate lighting which followed, boi h aboriginals were- filing overboard.
