UNION GO. PLACE 'ORDERS FOR TWO VESSELS. (Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 2d The Union Company has placed u contract- with Cominell, Laird, Ltd., Birkenhead, for two modern cargo steamers, 3400 tons deadweight, 293 ft long, 4Gft beam, to draw 18H fully loaded, speed of .10 knots 3 at sea. propulsion by steam, with ban,/firoci furnaces to twin boilers, and provision is to be made for the installation of a pulverized coal plant if thought -desirable at any -'time to use that form of fuelling. The engines will be situated right aft on each vessel and each will be propelled by a single, screw, have three masts, i arrving four derricks and serving three- holds of two compartments. The vessels have been specially designed for the West Const coal trade and the carriage of general cargo on the Coast.
