South Canterbury runhoiders complain bitterly of the prevalence of sheep stealing.

Air. S. P. Hope, one of the largest holders in the Abu konize country states that 3500 sheep were taken from the Sherwood Downs district last year. In one case a flock of SCO owes completely disappeared. Messrs Hope Brothers are offering £IOO for information of the thief taking sheep from their Grampians and Whale's Back Stations. Farmers say that the thieves raid Rocks in remote lake lots of 20 or 30 in covered motor wagons, and are even daring enough to rut a section out of long lines being driven from sales, decent losses include 100 ewes from a paddock fronting the main road at Pleasant Point. 400 merino ewes from W bale's Back, and 800 from another Mackenzie run.

Farmers urge that the Government. should give more help m tracing the thieves, and that the penaltie-! for stealing should he increased.
