(Speciai To The Times;. TOKOMARU, March 23
A further meeting of the proposed tennis and bowling clubs was held on Thursday evening, there being a particularly strong gathering, which indicated the general feeling towards the bove. Mr Lumsden occupied the chair and outlined the proposal lor the benefit of those unable to attehfl the initial meeting. Continuing, he seated that success had been met with in the canvassing for funds to constitute the Joan, and that in hand and promised was a sum of £334, n number of likely contributors not having yet been approached so that the sum aimed at, £4OO, would probably be oversubscribed. Messrs D. J. Barry, Ltd., generously made a donation of £25, and a number of olhcrs had also made a gift of £3 as well a<s a further loan. It i\as considered that slightly more than tint above (snot would be necessary to put the cotuts and green into working order so a novel scheme was put to°the meeting whereby with the aid of Is contribution ft considerable «um could be raised—six persons to be asked for Is each, these six asking live each and so on down to one, wnen close on £IOO would bo rais cd. This scheme lias already been started and is meeting with success. A finance committee, to take charge of the fund's on behalf of the contributors was then appointed n<y under: Messrs F. R. JcfFerd, 1). Lumsden, ir. H. Puflett, Hy. Huberts, Findlay and Dr TJ. It. MacUav. The committee was then instructed to carry on with the proposed work as soon as possible. A ■ suggestion was made that a ball be held.in the near future which would] enable funds to be raised for preliminary expenses and payments which would, have to be on account of rates, etc., on the -ground before the two proposed clubs would have time to be formed. An entertainment commit!ee . ad follows was then elected: Mesdames Grant, Steed and N. Oates, Messrs L 5. Burdett, Grant, Pepper, P. Pep per and C. Oates.
