TiIUKSDAY EVENING’S CARNIVAL.

Speculation is rife as to the win ner of the 100yd* Poverty Bay men’s championship, which will be the feature event at the Gisborne. Surf and Swimming Club’s carnival at the High School Baths on Thursday evening next. The present holder, R. Richardson, is swimming at top form, but, is threatened with serious opposition from R. W. Barton, D. \V. Mcßeugue, and R. Colebourne, and many predict that the title will change hands. It should be a capital con-te-st and a new record is more than probable Avitli such a formidable tic Id,

Additional interest will be evinced in the 50yds ladies’ ' championship by the inclusion of Miss Hyland, of Tokuiuaru Bay, who has many line performances to her credit. Uno of the most exciting events of the evening should be the 50yds men’s scratch race, which has drawn entries from the speediest swimmers in the district.
