ACTIVITIES OF. LOCAL BRANCH

Kells-presiding...-.; ' » The chief business dealt witn was in connection with the annual, conference of branches to., he held on January' 28 and 29 in Auckland. 'The 'committee decided ,to ask Mr C 4. C. Muons M.P., for several years a member of the committee, to act iwi delegate. The secretary of the conference, Mr. R. Darroch, having asked for statements of the. activities of the branches during the past year, the secretary read a draft report, which received the committee’s approval. The following is the report: The roll number of the branch is 89 adults and 391 junior members. The Work of the branch has been directed chiefly to education work among the children. In this, we have been assisted both, in advice and personal . help by the Headmasters’ Association. Annual competitions in e&3ay writing and drawing were held in connection with Nelson Day. The children were entertained at the Pictures on tho King’s Birthday, when a short address was given them by the Rev.'Canon Pack©, vicepresident and, on Nelson Day, when the prizes' won jn the competitions were presented. On the occasion oi the exhibition of tile Picture. Flag Lieutenant’’ and “H.R.H. the Prince of Wales” the children were admitted at a nominal price, the branch • paying the balance. When H.M.S. Veronica visited Gisborne in Mav last, the branch in eonpuncrion with the Borough Council, attended to the entertainment of tho men. The Victoria League also assisted ill this work. A wreath packed in ice was ■• 9 ent from Gisborne to London to ‘bo placed on the Nelson Monument on Nelson Day. The branch lias agreed to assist men retiring from the Navy in New Zealand by investigating confidentially business propositions made to them in this district. We have also coonerated with other bodies in several local functions. We ioined in the organisation of Empire Week and in the Cook Day and Arrnistic Day celebrations.
