THE MANAIA HILL FATALITY.

(Press Association.) - COROMANDEL. Nov. ,26. Throe people were killed in a motor accident on. Manaia Hill, near Coromandel, . yesterday , afternoon, when a car driven by WiJJiam. Wilson, and containing six people, capsized over a 60ft, bank. 'The killed are: Mr. Wilson, sen., father of the driver; Mrs. Wilson, wife of Mr. W. Wilson; and Jessie Wilson.-2, a daughter of Mr. W. Wilson. The‘injured are: Mr. W. Wilson injuries to shoulder, and shock; Mr.’ B. S. Carroll, fracture of several ribs and bruises; Margaret Wilson, 6, daughter of Mr. W. Wilson, slight injuries. . 'The party was returning to Thames in Mr. Wilson’s car from a visit to Mr. Frank Shepherd, mine manager of the Haurak'i Gold Mining Co., Coromandel. Mr. Wilson, ssn., and Mrs. Wilson were. killed almost _ into ntaneously, while Jessie Wilson died an hour later at Coromandel Hospital, a few minutes after admission. The accident occurred at about 4 o’clock, when the car was at the top of Manaia Hill, where the road is extremely rough and dangerous,' with banks ’ and steep drops on either side. Mr. Wilson thought he heard another car approaching, and pulled into the bank away from the edge. The wheels became lodged into the water table, and it was necessary to put on speed lo get the motor out. The- car left the water table with a jump, and went suddenly over tho side of the road, rolling a considerable distance down into a stock accommodation paddock below the road. The car, a new limousine which Mr. Wilson had recently purchased, was damaged beyond repair. Mr. Wilson is foreman at the Thames works of Messrs. A. and G. Price. 'Ltd., where he has been employed for a long period. His .father, ; a resident of Dev on port, was .spending a- holiday frith his son. Mrs. Wi’son was a daughter of Mr. George Clark, a wellknown Thames resident. Mr. Carroll is inspecting locomotive engineer to the. Railway Department in connection with the construction of railway engines for the Department at Thames by Messrs. Price, Ltd. His wife resides in Auckland. A motor truck was sent out from Thames to tiring back the bodies of those killed.
