The Manchester November Handicap resulted: Saracen 1, Norwest 2, Nestoriaii' 3. Twfenty 1 started. AVoft by one and a-lialf lengths; five lengths between second, and third. TURF NOTES. The new type of starting gate in use in France has been erected for inspection at Newmarket ' and will probably come into fairly general use in England. It is a six-strand barrier with an electrical despatch. This type of harrier steadies a field and. riders much better than a single strand. The horses probably think it is a high fence and so are deceived Into standing- quietly on the mark. It is rare to find a two-mile race run in divisions, hut such an instance is recorded from Western Australia in-connection with the Goodwood Cup. The first division was won by the New Zealand bred Jemidar (by Martian—Ayah) who heat a field of 14. Prior to his transportation to Western Australia, Jemidar was raced in New Zealand by Mr E. L. Rdddiford. Til the autumn of 1927 he won the Novice Plate (6, fur.) at Hie AVoocivil le meeting, so that he did not have much to recommend him as a Cup horse.
