£lo,ooo PRIZE.
ROMANCE OF FOOTBALL FORECAST CONTEST.
one PAPER, ONE FORM
Love at first sight, a courtship tilled with ambitious plans for a. business of liis own and a home for his pretty, dark-haired sweetheart, and then on the eve of his wedding—a fortune!
■ These are the remarkable chapters in the life of Mr William Tunstall, The Gardens, Church Broughton. Derby, who has won £IO,OOO in London in September by forecasting twentythree correct results in the £20.000 football contest run by .the Sunday Pictorial, in conjunction with the Sunday Dispatch and the Daily Mirror.
As in the case of Mr. Tom Hartley, the Blackburn reader who won the previous week’s prize of £20,000 for giving twenty-four . correct results, Mr Tunstall bought only one paper and filled in only one entry, form. Mr Tunstall is an unassuming mail of twenty-six, with a pleasant smiling face and an upright soldierly carriage, tho legacy of three years’ service in the Grenadier Guards. He appeared to be overawed when a Sunday Pictorial rpresentative announced his success to him. In a- fortnight’s time he was to be married to Miss Harriet Mellor, who lias been employed 'at the institution in the village of Newstead, near Derby, where Mr Tunstall is a male nurse. : ' ' i ’ In contemplating the wondqpful difference which his £IO,OOO will make to liisi whole life, it was to his marriage -that liis thoughts first turned. “I am being married in a fortnight',’’ he said shyly. “I told my fiancee the news as soon as I knew that I had:-twenty-three results-cor-rect', and, like myself, she was too happy to safy very 'much more than ‘£lo.ooo!—wouldn’t it'be a wonderful wedding present!’” [According to a cable message from London last week, these comjietitions 3iavte now 'listen' declared illegal.]
