AMERICA’S ANSWER.
COOLIDGE’S NAVAL PROGRAMME • united Press Assn. Dy El. Tel. Copyright (Australian Press Association.) (Received Nov. 26, 1 a.m.) CHICAGO, Nov. 25. The American Legion endorses Mr Coolidge’s naval programme. National Commander Paul McNutt said in an address:—
“It is America’s answer to the failure of the Geneva Conference. It is the only answer the other nations would understand.”
The New York Times’ Washington correspondent soy-s that fifteen Republican Senators, who breakfasted with Mr Coolidge to-day, carried away the impression that the President appears to be inclined to make another effort to bring the United States into membership of a World Court,. The President discussed a' legislative programme with them and they learned that he is anxious to round out his Presidential career with ratification of the Kellogg Pact, the enactment of a fifteen ctuiser Bill and an arrangement with the Powers signatory to the World Court protocol, whereby the obstacle to American adherence offered by the Senate’s reservations would overcome. . - - It was apparent to certain of the Senatorial guests that to bring this Government into the World Court’s membership was a matter dear to the President’s heart. There was no disclosure to indicate that for overcoming the Senate reservations difficulties hud been initiated with the Powers but a knowledge of the President’s manner of doing things gives color to a surmise that negotiations are already in progress.
