A New Zealander,., paused .a.diversion by swimming in the danger zone'; nearly,, three hundred yards from the shore. Life savers went after him, but he leisurely came ashore on the top of huge breakers and, when- reproved by the surf brigade men because of the risks' of sharks and undertow. he calmly retorted : “Why, we think nothing about going that far- out in New Zealand.” Later. The New Zealander indicated,in the surf incident was Ronald Webster of Auckland, who .made an unsuccessful attempt to swim Cook Strait lastseason.
