OPERA HOUSE
‘‘WORLD’S ENTERTAINERS.”
UNUSUAL VAUDEVILLE ACTS
Clover and highly entertaining vaudeville acts woie presented at tho Opera. House last evening when “Tho \\ oriel’s Entertainers”’ made their debut to a. well-fiUca house. Tho earlier portion of, tno programme comprised a stirring film me.odiama of old Spain, -rhe Climbers,” featuring Irene Rich. Tho opening number by “Tho World’s Entertainers” was a remarkably artistic display of dancing by Evelyn May, who made a charming figure in a variety of beautiful costumes, not the least interesting point being her .quick changes of dress on the stage itself. jtfanelli and Mack followed with a series ot juggling feats which evoked the warmest applause from the crowd. Alack supplied the comedy element, several of his turns filling the audience with wonder until he turned away and, in casual fashion, let the • cat out of the bag” by showing that his apparatus had divers strings etc., which made the wonders possible. Man el, i, however, performed some unusually clever feats, his manipulation or hoops being proba >lv his best turn. ,lVan McDonald featured a delightful living marionette shew, working the figures; with her own face, and neck as portion thereof, on a miniature stage and rendering a number or popular vocal airs in pleasing iashion.
Harms troll’s comedy cockatoos pioved a slice r delight from start To finish. They are wonderfully well trained and appear birds of unusual intelligence. “Colonel, of the mathematical turn of mind, scored tremendously, giving the correct answers, by taps on a gong, to subtraction and addition sums propounded !<y members of the audience, even lotting up three separate figures and making no error. Among a number oi other feats, Co onel tapped out lhe correct time. “Clifford,” another ot the birds, showed himself a sound musician by playing “Home, Sweet Home,” in cleailv recognisable strains, on a special instrument operated hv pulling strings. Another l)ird turned somersaults along a table, on the stage, and others stunted on parallel bars, etc. Hauling a friend along in a chariot* was the foat of another bird, this causing the greatest amusement. The performance will be repeated at a special matinee at 3.30 to-day, and again to-night. Another matinee will I*} given at 2 p.m. to-morrow.
