At tho age of ninety-tour years, 'Alary Greenwood died at New Plymouth last night. She was a daughter of Dr Daniorth Greenwood, an early pioneer of Motueka. Afiss Greenwood, with her sisters, founded Chilton House School, Wellington. Aliss Greenwood retained her faculties till the end, even voting at tho recent election by post.—P.A.

The death took place at the Napier Hospital on Wednesday of E. (Ted) lieillv, who will be remembered by rne cifu school of racegoers as having rTlclen Crummy’ at the Town and .Toburban meetiug at Jervoiston nearly two. score of years ago when that grey gelding paid a sensational dividend. Reilly also rode Orwell when he won at Petane about the same time, and paid a fair-sized dividend also. Later on Reilly was well-known for some years as tho driver of the Taupo coach. He leaves one daughter. Airs Ramsay, of Auckland, who wiT! have the sympathy of many friends.

Tributes to the excellent services rendered to Poverty Bay and East Coast bv Mr G. AV. Albertson, Resident Engineer, and chairman of the No. 3 Highways Council, were paid at tho meeting .of the AVaiapu County Council at AVaipiro Bay on Tuesday. Cr. AV. Oates moved that a letter of congratulation on his promotion be forwarded to Air. Albertson and that appreciation of his efforts on behalf of the district he placed on record. Cr. A. B. AVilliams, in seconding the motion, and several other members, spoke warmly of the departing engineer’s ability and his readiness, at all times, to go to any lengths of trou/l|e for the good of the district. Tho motion was then carried nnanimoufilv and by acclamation.

Sincere regret will be felt by n wide circle of friends at the death, late on Wednesday, of one of tho best-known figures around Waipaoa, Mr James Smith Williamson, at tho ago of 69 years. One of the earliest employees of Nelson’s (N.Z.) Ltd. works at Waipaoa, Air Williamson was very well-known throughout the district through his work as stockpicker lor the firm. About two years ago, he suffered a serious setback in health, sustaining injuries hv a, fall among a pen of bullocks, and since '-hen he had been unable to work continuously. Surviving Mr 'Williamson are his widow, one daughter, Mrs i'. Jones,, and two sons, Messrs Ray and Henry Williamson, all residents rf the district, to whom the deepest sympathy will lie extended in their sad loss. The funeral leavps the residence at 2 n.m. to-day for- Taruheru cemetery.

Members of the staff of the local branch of the National Bank of New Zeal a ltd assembled on Wednesday evening to bid farewell to Air R. A. Harnsdale, on the eve of his departure to take up the post o r f assistant manager at'the Christchurch branch uf the bank., On behalf of the staff Mr J. L. Barriball expressed their regret lit Mr Barnsdale’s departure, especially in view of the very' cordial relations which had existed between the staff and manager, during Mr Barnsdale’s regime. The speaker also congratulated Air Barnsdale on - his promotion which, he said, was thoroughly deserved, and expressed the hope that further success would come his way in the near future. Mr Barriball concluded by presenting Air Barnsdale with a smoker's stand and also a handsome pair ' of beaten bronze vn,se.s for Airs Barnsdale, accompanying both gifts with the warmest regards from the whole staff. Opportunity was also taken by Air Barriball to welcome the new manager, AF' l ' G. K. Bulters. late of " ellingtoy.
