POVERTY BAY ASSOCIATION MEETING OF EXECUTIV E. Only five delegates attended the usual' weekly meeting of the executive committee of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association, held last evening, Mr V. R. O. Mitford presiding over the following: Messrs A. Baker, F. Bennett, W. Bignall, G. V. Lynex and R. W. Gumming (lion. see.). Registrations were approved as follows: ..Lindsay (TWanganui), A. H. Dow (City), O. FI. Williams, and 11. 1. Thodey (Poverty Bay), and also sixteen Turangan hi junior players, ■ ry It was decided that the Thursday competition should open this week with a match between City and Soft Goods, School having a bye; For next Saturday (the fourth qualifying round), tho draw was made - as follows ' for the senior grade:—• School v. Civil Service, No. I, Messrs Wilkes and Thomson. Celtic v. Poverty Bay, No. 2, Messrs Martin- and Cooke. Old Boys v. - City, No’.- 3, Messrs. Sharp and Miles.- . HAWKE CUP PRELIMINARY ■ MATCH AGAINST HAWKE’S BAY POVERTY BAY XI. SELECTED Hawke’s Bay’s suggestion that the preliminary game ior tho Hawke Cup be played at Napier on November 30 and December 1 was formally adopted and it was decided to ask that play commence not later than 10 o’clock on tho ; first’ day. Tho .selector (Mr MY Guthrie) submitted the following team to represent Poverty Bay:—• L. Thomson (School). S. Reeves (P. 8.) C. Fraser (City). J. Scholium (Celtic). F. Bennett (Celtic.) G. Pocock (School). E. James (School.; O. Dow (Old Boys). G. Winter (Old Boys). G. J, Robertson (Old Boys). G. Lockett (Old Boys). The twelfth man. is yet to be selected - Tlie team was approved and L. Thomson appointed captain and S. Reeves vice-captain, while Mr Mitford was appointed manager. It was also decided that all selected players must attend practice every evening. Regarding tho match against Waiapu, it was - decided to write explaining the position and to state that a fixture .will he arranged later in the season. SCHOLLUM CHALLENGE CUP. P. AND T. TEAM DEFEATED The first match for the Scholium Challenge Cup was played during the week-end, the Scholium family team defeating the P. and T. eleven by 29 runs on the first innings. An interesting match between Turanganui and Te Karaka _ on the country centre’s wicket during the week-end resulted in a win for the home eleven bv 92 runs. Te Karaka scored 59 and 77 in their two innings and Turanganui knocked up *■' and 17 respectively.
