NOTES AND NEWS. Mandane only commenced racing this season at the Wellington spring meeting, and her efforts since then have been good. She was conceding t3l'b to First Sight, who beat her at ■'Ticearton. Mandane should be m nrst-class order if brought north for tho Auckland summer meeting. Last season she won the Summer Cup, and was very unlucky to be brought down when’ making her run in the Auckland Racing Club Handicap on tlie following day. iicy subsequent winning of the Wanganui Cup showed that she would have had something to say in the finish of the lUlerslie event if she had not fallen. The Waikato Racing Club made a .profit of £1638 10s over its spring meeting at Te Rapa, which marks tile recent fixture as one of the most successful, financially, that has been held since the club shifted its head* quarters from Claudelands (says an Auckland writer). It is good to find the Waikato Club “turning the corner” with its meetings, as the row it has to hoe, in the financial sense, is no easv one. The club has a very fine course at Te Rapa—none better in the land —and with an nnpioiement in the financial barometer the opportunity will be extended to get ahead with the scheme of permanent Jut riding, an essential t-o such an important centre for racing.
