BARKER’S STATION LOADED INTO LINER SAME ; y _ ' ■ OAV A remark able, achievement in the handling of wool from the sheep's back to the ship’s hold was achieved yesterday when some 30 bales of wool shorn that morning on Mr Vincent Barker’s “Pukeakura” station in the Waimata Valley were deposited in the hold of the Port Darwin In th« afternoon. The wool was the last of a line that had to be shipped by the Port Darwin, which is the last Homehound steamer' touching this port which will reach) Home with wool in time for tho first London sale In January. *; Everyone connected with the operations yesterday knew they were working against time and went to work with a will. The six shearers in the gang handled nearly eOo sheep in the morning, and as fast as it came off the sheep’s back the wool was bustled off to the classing benches, pressed and baled on lorries for the twen-ty-five mile trip to' Gisborne. Here it was; dumped in the G.S.F.M. store, and quickly passed through and despatched on lighters to the Port Darwin in the roadstead, th© loading on the Home steamer being completed by nigh trail.
