LOCAL FILM.
TO BE PKODUOED IN GISBORNE OPPORTUNITY’ FOR AMATEUR TALENT ■... -'v Arrangements have been completed with Mr Rudall Hayward, the well-known pioneer Niew Zealand film producer, who was responsible* for “The Te Kooti Trail”, “Rtewi’s Last Stand”, “My Lady of the Cave”, and other well-known Dominion films, for the production of a complete local • comedy-drama entitled *-A Daughter of .. Gisborne” which will be enacted against a background of chosen local bea-uty spots- by a cast of entirely Ideal players. It will be _ entirely a Gisborne film and suggestions for suitable backgrounds - will be welcomed by the producer. When the picture is finished, it will be developed, and printed, and within a few weeks after the filming of the last scene it will be presented in Gisborne for a three nights’ season, and later shown in other parts of the Dominion. With the aid of an accomplished producer . the- best of photography and > some good local talent, and scenic backgrounds, it is considered that a film that will be a credit, to the district will result. Incidentally local talent will be given a great 'opportunity to reveal itself under skilled direction. ,
The idea of these “communify” films is not new. In America and Australia it has been in full swing for some time. Oyer ten towns in New South Wales have made or are making their own local film. Tamworth, New South Wales, has just finished “Tilly of Tamworth’V The film has been screened with great success. In New Zealand the people of Hamilton have, completed “Hamilton Husbands” and had a lot of fun out of it. Also a very fine film has -,been made in Dunedin.
Gisborne is to have the next opportunity, and anyone with an ambition to act for the _ screen should lose no time in getting in touch with Mrs Hayward at the Masonic Hotel. The town’s prettiest daughter is require# to enact the role of “A Daughter of Gisborne”, and the best-looking outdoor man is wanted to, play the role of “Tom”, the young farmer. A smart ■ man-about-town is required to enact the part of the villainous young reporter of si local paper, who brings Tom to ruin. A numbbr of good riders, willing to appear in a few scenes on Saturday afternoon are also required. The public generally are invited to. appear in the crowd scenes which will be filmed in the main street on a Saturday morning and are supposed to portray Gisborne (town) on an election day. Mr Hayward is accompanied by Mrs Hayward, and is bringing with him a ton of paraphernalia for making films by the latest methods. He wishes it to be distinctly understood bv the public, that his film is riot a so-called “screen test” but a geniune attempt to make a worth-while local film. Every effort will be made by careful tuition and painstaking effort to show local talent at its best.
