MACHINE LAYS RAILS
180 YARDS OF TRACK AN HOUR A machine'train which, it is claimed, will lay 180 yards, of railway track in an hour or relay four miles in a night, k to bo introduced experimentally by the London and North-Eastern Railway Company. It is stated that it will reduce labour costs by 40 per cent. A railway is laid upon it, and among other features are : Circular saw for automatically trimming sleepers. Electric power generated from engine. Searchlights. “This track-laying machine will pick up bodily a section of track 60 ft. long, deposit it on the train, carry forward a new section, and gently lower it into position,” said an official of the L.N.E.R.
