PAPER MILL FIRE.
ALLEGATION OF DELAY BY * BRIGADE DENIED. WOULD HAVE MEANT DEATH TO firemen; (Australian Press Assn.' (Received Nov. 15, ,11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 15. The Cumberland paper mills fire enquiry was resumed. Eire* Officer Samuel Fletcher denied Mr. Bain’s, allegations that the Brig-, acle- was slow in responding to the alarm. He said an. attempt was made to take tihe fire engine down the hill through the burning .undergrowth to the- paper mills, but the .whdie countryside was a blazing inferno. It was the hottest day of. the year. The wind was Fierce and it would have meant, certain death to the brigade crew. Consequent]v they concentrated on saving neighlloving cottages, Kcven of which wore saved fiom destruction. The enquiry adjourned.
