Mr. J. R,. Kirk received advice or the death of his mother at Dunedin yesterday, and left in the afternoon to attend the funeral in the Southern city.

Mr. Chas. Tiotjen is now making excellent progress towards recovery from the severe injury he sustained in July. Ho has been able to get. about fo£ some time, and lus disability lias been considerably reduced. Mr. Tietjen is now undergoing a course of treatment- at Rotorua, and will be absent, from Gisborne for some time.
The Premier of New South Wales (Mr. Bavin) has forwarded the Government’s cheque of £2,500 to Squadron Commander Smith and FlightLie ut. Ulm, _ together with aj highly complimentary letter on their successful Pacific flight, also congratulating them on • their notable flights across Australia to Perth, and to New Zealand and back;—Aust. A London cable states that tho death has occurred at the age of 105 years of Mrs. Eleanor Tylden, who lived near Sandringham. ' On her hundredth birthday she was visited by Qu-cen Mary, Queen. Alexandra, and the Queens of Norway, Spain and Rumania. She had remarkable talents, memorising the whole of’ the Psalms accurately. She related cen-tury-old, happenings accurately.— Aust.
