GIRL KILLED I)Y TANK. Miss Edith Smith, aged 20, of Gower road, Haywards Heath, Sussex, was killed, by a jtank during the Aldershot Command manoeuvres. The tank was going homo, after military lorries opposite the camp of the Ist Guards Brigade at Cuckfield Park the back portion swung round and crushed the girl against a fence at which she was standing. The fence was wrecked and the girl Was thrown under the caterpillar. Her left arm had to be amputated by a military doctor before she could be released. She died within a few minutes. The driver of the tank was so dis - tressed that ho had to be taken to camp in an officer’s car.
