AUSTRALIAN NOTES flatted Press Assn, by EJ Tel. Copyrigb* (Australian Press Association.) (Received Nov. 14, 8.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov, 14. Spearfelt, a former Cup winner, has been purrliased by Mr T. Jennings for 1300 guineas and will be used for stud purposes in Queensland. W. Kdso a prominent Sydney trainer and owner, has had a phenomenal run of luck. His winnings with only half of the season gone, are already £17,257. MELBOURNE, Nov. 14. Sol Green, owner of the brilliant performer Gothic, states that Gothic’s racing career will end at the autumn meeting, after which he will go to the stud.
. NOTES AND NEWS. If taken to the Te Kuiti meeting Maeroon should be equal to racing prominently against the " opposition she null be meeting at that fixture. Tills mare has been showing up in her recent starts, and is now nice and solid with the racing she has had. Last season Maeroon won eight races, and was placed on six other occasions, capturing £1361) in stake-mqn-ey. it was towards the end of November before she got on the, winning list, her first success being in the Takapuna Plate, in which event she returned a big dividend. Crown Area was disposed of during the. course of the New Zealand Cup meeting to owner-trainer J. MeCombe, and lie was not Jong in getting a return, for Crown Area, accounted for the Jockey Club Handicap at Riccarton, which was worth oSOsovs to the winner. Last season Drown-Area proved himself a good sprinter, but also showed that he could run a middle distance- well, for at the Manawatu autumn meeting lie' was narrowly be;;.ten by : \ ertigern over nine furlongs. McComlie should have a good proposition in Crown Area. Evidently the connections of Black Mint think he us an iron, horse. Not content with starting him in the Suburban Handicap, nine furlongs, at Riccarton, in which he ran third with 11.9, he continued his engagement -in the Canterbury Cup, one mile and three-quarters, later in the df’-y, in. wliiclv he finished last in a. field of throe. One thing Black Mint has -to be thankful for is that- the Canterbury Jockey Club decided this season to reduce* tho event from two miles and a-quarter to one mile and threequarters. . ■ Pride, who won the Now Zealand Oaks, is by Sutula from Egotism, and therefore a full-sister to. Wayward, who won the Douro Cup at Wellington. Pride did not race -as a two-year-old, and tliis season ediei was started on the first two days of the New Zealand Cup meeting, finishing third to Mendip and Historic in the Hagley Handicap on the- second day. She was stated to be somewhat unlucky at the start of that race, and despite that fact was always prominent in the running. Pride is evidently going to be a very useful sort when she is a bit more seasoned.
