Entries at te-day’s 'sale. were on an average scale in most classes of. stock and, with no sale last week on account of .the holiday, there was a good demand for fat sheep, but an easier one for fat cattle. Store sheep.—There were heavier entries, including a good-sized consignment of wethers from Nelson. It was a good sale for all classes of average to good sorts of wethers and hoggets, whilst ewes and lambs retained last sale yalues. Ewes and 'ambs mad© 18s fid -*to 23s Id.; good 4, 6 and 8-th ewes- 34s to 375; ordinary to ,27‘s fid; woolled halfbred wethers 32s 6d to 34s Id; best shorn wethers 245. to 26s 9d; ordinary 21s fid to 23s 6(3. Fat lambs.—An entry of 550 head, which was readily bought by Butchers. The quality was exceptionally good: Extra prime lamljs to 36s 7d; prime lambs 32s to 345; medium lambs 29s to 31s 6d; light lambs 27s to 28s 9d.

Fat sheep.—A good quality entry, the bulk ol the shorn comprising 10| races. The sale opened at about last week’s rates, but hardened by a Shilling a head as the sale advanced. Fat cattle.—An entry of 510 head and of good all-round quality. There were easier values by 20s per head for big plain steers and heavy cows, and other sorts less. Vealers.—Good vealers were in short supply and prices for them were fully on a par with the best of recent sales. Good vealers made to £7 10s; ...medium vealers £3 10s to £5 15s; small calves 15s to £2 10s. Store cattle.—A small entry of stores, with no quotable lines of steers or heifers. There was a keen sale, all offerings being disposed of. A line of light well bred yearling Shorthorn bulls made from 10gns.J:o 10|gns.; best cows £5 10s to £7 15s; medium cows £3 to £5; old cows 30s to £2 10s; bulls £4 to £ll.

Dairy cattle.—A small entry, but 15 Jersey heifers met with keen competition and sold at uu to £ls; best second, third and fourth culvers made £8 10s to £l3: medium £6 io £8: backward culvers £•! to £0 10s; good extra good heifers £lO to £ls; medium heifers £6 to £9. Fat pigs.—A very large entry oj porkers, the market being oversupplied and prices toward the end of the sale were nearly down to ex-_ port level. A small entry of baconers met with a fair demand and a. sharp rise towards the end. Choppers made £2 to £4 16s; light baconers. £3 to £3 10s; heavy £3 10s to £4 6s Gd—average price per lb. s|d to 6|d; porkers 34s to tins Gd —average price per lb. s|d to 7d. Store pigs.—A medium entry, with improved competition for smaller sorts, but no change- in tlie value of big pigs. Small weaners 8s to 10s: good weaners 11s to 14s 6d; small stores 12s to 16s: medium 17s to. 22s 6d: large 23s to 28s; extra large to 335.
