Deep and sincere sympathy' will be extended to Dr. W. A. Bowie in the of his mother, Mrs. It. H. Bowie, who passed away at Timaru on Monday evening. She had not enjoyed good health for some time and, in view, of a. recent severe turn. Dr. Bowie left Gisborne for Timaru on Sunday.

The many friends of Airs. Jas. Faulkner, of Auckland and formerly of Gisborne, will regret to hear that she. passed away at her residence, Douglas street, Ponsonby, on Friday evening, at the age of 74 years. With her husband, deceased came to New Zealand over 50. years ago. For a •groat number'of years she resided in Patutahi. Her kindly -nature endeared her to many friends in Gisborne and Auckland. Deceased leaves a husband and a grown-up family to mourn their loss. Mr. Jas. Faulkner, of Gladstone road, is a son.

A memorial to Lord Milner was yesterday dedicated in one of the oldest and most beautiful parts of Canterbury Cathedral, the chapel of St. Martin of Toures, by the retiring archbishop. It consists of an altar with above it an inscription in -which reference is made to the manner in which Lord Milner, who died three years ago, “devoted his life to the social and national well-being of .Britain at home and overseas.” in fiis address, the archbishop made particular reference to Lord Milner’s service in Egypt and South /Africa.— British Official Wireless.
