The airmen Smith and Ulm, interviewed, said that they were impressed with the efficiency of the New Zealand Air Force, There seehie’d to be as many machines as men. Flight .Lieut. Ulm repudiated the idea that he and Squadron Leader Smith were fond of dangerous flying and added:— “If I were to make a private trip to New Zealand and back I would sooner travel by the “Southern Cross’ than by a steamer.”
