Once, she said, she had sold her pearl earrings to help pay the wages. “What- about those you’ve got on?” someone in the audience shouted. “They cost me seven and sixpence.” she replied, “’lake them home to your wife, ’ she added. “If they really were only sev-f-u and sixpence riiy wife doesn't want .’em,” was the reply- “ane don’t wear imitations 4”
