• : —— UNIVERSITY EXAMS HELD IN WINTER SHOW BUILDING. CONCRETE. FLOOR AND RAIN DROPPING. NOISE OF WORKMEN DISTRACTS ATTENTION. \ (Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 2. The Winter Shew building is being used for the university examinations, and strong complaints have been made“ by candidates at the cheerless conditions, especially by ladies. It is asserted that the place is cold and uncomfortable, with an iron roof ami concrete floor. Rain has been, dripping iii, and there is no provision for cloak rooms, while the noise of workmen aiid an electric motor distracted attention and prevented concentrated attention on the examination' papers. It is also allegedl that there arc not enough' supervisors for the, 6-50 candidates, and their attention could not-he obtained. The cold is intense, as there is no heating system and the building is quite unsuitable in such inclement weather. , , ' . . To these coriinlaints the official reply is that- the university Has foi some years had difficulty, in finding » suitable hall, aiid under ordinary weather conditions it' was thought that the' show building would be quite satisfactory. It is admitted that the candidates must have suffered from the. cold, and noise, hut the. buildings previously used would also have' had- discomforts in such weather. ‘Hie officials considered that some of .’the complaints wore exaggerated, and .groundless, and said the wettest’ places were; away' -from the section itsedf. and there was plenty of dry space; nor 'Was. the building draughty, to any extent.' v ...
