The fallowing cablegram from London, was published-*in the .Rand Daily Mail”) Johannesburg, South Africa) on the 15th, September:— ‘‘Though official circles in London maintain discreet silence, a rumor was current to-day that the Dulce of York will, be- the Earl of Athlon©s successor as Governor-General of the Union of South Africa. One London paper, commenting on the visit or the Earl of Athlone, Princess Alice and Lady'May Cambridge to the King and Queen at Balmoral, said a tew day® ago that it-would not be surprising, when the Governor-Generalship of the Union falls vacant in-a year’s time, if the, post were filled by a Royal personage. - The ‘rStar’ says-: that _ interesting -discussions are proceeding at Balmoral 'concerning the Earl of Athlone’s successor. The Earl of Athlone, Princess Alice, and the Duchess of York arc all staying at Balmoral at present.” • .
