SEAMEN DEMAND RESIGN A- / U - TION. SECRETARY-' guarded by POLICE. VITRIOLIC REMARKS. BTJK AJG FIT-OUT REFUSAL. United Press Assn by El. Tel. Oopyriffbi (Australian Press Association.) (Received Nov. 2. 9.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 2. Nine members 'of the Seamen’s Union, who claimed to represent SCO men, tramped into the Seamen’s Union office to-day and called upon Mr Walsh to relinquish the general secretaryship. Two detectives sat between Air Walsli and the deputation while a posse of uniformed police lined the stairs leading to , the office. • Mr Walsli, with all his old'lighting spirit, flatly refused, and said heivould do nothing of the kind. Vitriolic remarks were hurled all round, in which charges were made of interfering with the rules. Mr Walsh, pounding the table, shot back, “Look here, a certain section of the Union has committed the greatest outrage in the history of the manipulation* of those rules.” The deputation talked themselves to a standstill and left, uttering all kinds of threats. • Chief Secretary Bruntriell stated to-day that he has instructed the police to adopt the sternest measures for the suppression of all forms of lawlessness, his comment arising out of threats against Mr Walsh and the disturbances .at election meetings.
