Tho machine was warmly supported by the secretary of the Victoria Racing Club, but the secretary of tho Victorian Amateur Turf Club said that racing would bo impossible without hotting—no one would attend-—while the totalisator alone would produce an undesirable class ill hosts of illegal bookmakers. The machine would also greatly increase tho number of small bets. His personal opinion was that bookmakers alone, at at present, provided the best system. Nineteen yearlings realised 37.535 guineas, colts out of Bracket by Mockals of Marcus fetching 6100 and 6000 guineas respectively. Tho top price for two and three-year-olds was 4600 guineas, which was paid by an American buyer.
