Rain compelled the postponement yesterday of the opening of the Gisborne A.A. and H.O. This will now be held next Thursday evening. Hundreds of thousands of tobacco plants'preparatory to being placed in ihe open are now being picked out by growers throughout the district (says the Nelson “Mail”). The seed is very fine indeed, and of necessity is thick,lv sown. It is stated that the acreage this year will show a considerable increase on 1027. The New Zealand superintendent for Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., states a Wellington message, has received advice from London head office that at the annual meeting to be held on November 15 the directors will recommend a final dividend of 3 per cent., making (with the interim dividend already paid) 10 per cent, for the year ended June 30 last, together with a bonus of seven shillings per share. The dividend and bonus will he payable on November 21. The directors propose writing down the premises £2-5,000, transferring £25,000 to tho staff provident fund, appropriating £50,000 for a staff_bonus, and carrying forward £195,300. —• Press Assn.
