MISS WILSON CHALLENGED, :

A WAIIiOA . CONTENDER j

A sprinr/. match between Miss Nonna Wilson; of' Gisborne, present New Zealand 100yds champion,, and Miss Stewart, a promising Wairoif runner, may be staged' in early in the New Year. ;> Tlie,;’-Gis-‘ borne girl has announced that she. will not' participate in any scratch event prior to the Christmas sports gatherings, and even if she accepted the challenge she would require. six weeks in which to prepare for-- the race. ; The Wairoa Sports Club’s application for the match was considered by the G.A.A. ancj' H.C. executive, when Mr H. F. Forster reported that the Wairoa girl was very keen to meet Miss Wilson and, was very confident of success. The match, it arranged, would servo as an interesting try-out for Miss Stewart, who hoped to compete, at th« next New Zealand championships. The consensusof opinion of the committee was that a team of Wairoa lady- runners, including Miss Stewart, should be invited to participate in one. of the evening meetings here, and this would) allow the Wairoa girl an opportunity of proving her merits as a runner. It was considered that it would not be fair to rush Miss Wilson into the necessity of training when there were several good lady runners here who should°be a good match for Miss Stewart. . • The committee, therefore,, agreed that the secretary should communicate with the Wairoa Club and endeavor to arrange for a visit of a party of Wairoa lady runners to Gisborne.
