Edward Joseph Coffey was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment for shooting witii intent to evade arrest. Coffey is oil crutches as the result of a builet wound in the spine from a police revolver. He denied any intention of shooting the police, adding that his revolver went off accidentally when the police shot him down. [Coffey disappeared in May supposedly drowned while bathing at Bondi "while on bail on charges of stealing motor cars. The police searched the Mascot district and sighted him on August 10. _ When chased he fired on the police, but was finally stopped by a bullet in the back.]
