South African Veterans.

ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION: .i

Tile annual general meeting of the Gisborne branch of the South African Veterans’ Association was held in Liberty Hall on Saturday evening, the president Mr. Frank -Parker, being in the chair, twentynine members being present. The chairman in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, outlined the work of the association during the past year and said that despite the fact that war was declared 28 years ago this month, the number of members seemed in increase instead of decreasing, and that every year some new members turned up, who had been lost sight of for years. After a short discussion the report and balance sheet were unanimously adopted!, the executive officers being congratulated on their work for the association the fact of a credit balance being shown being evidence of that fact. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: President Mr. J. Kenwick; i vice-president. Messrs W. Kobson, G. Crawsliaw, Grahame Johnstone, lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. V. Scott; executive, Messrs Campbell, McLaohlan, Pascoe. Poynter, W. Taylor, Linden, i’reigan and Monk; hon. auditor. Mr D. H. Faram; hon. chaplain, Hev. Canon Packer hop. quartermaster, Mr. H. Y. Hughes. A vote of thanks to the outgoing officers was carried by acclamation. This concluded the business of the meeting. The, remainder of the evening was devoted to harmony. The following toasts were honored: “The King”; “Old Veterans”: “Absent Comrades.” Songs and choruses of the time of tile Boev war were rendered with, lustiness. “Soldiers of the Queen” ; “Tommy Atkins” ; “Dolly Gray” ; and others that were popular at that time. The evening terminated with the singing of the National’ Anthem and Auld Lang Syne. Veteran G. Crawshaw presided at the piano; Messrs A. W. Rambling and W. McClure were the soloists, and Veteran- F. N. P'jgrim pleased the audience with some of lii.s “varus.” Tribute was paid, io the Press for their courtesy in publishing reports of meetings.
