Chapman’s advent to the crease resulted in sparkling cricket. Pie made his century in 91 minutes, and the. full total of 1-15 in 133 minutes. Ram overnight had rendered the wicket soft and easy, taking all the sting from the South Australian nftack. Leyland's wicket fell early, but then Chapman played havoc with the bowling, while Hammond, batting quietly, ran to 145 in 237 minutes, scoring eleven fours. Larwood showed form and ho and Chapman added 103 in 45 minutes, the record seventh wicket partnership in England versus South Australia matches.
