WANGANUI CREW AT MELBOURNE. BOAT DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR. VISITORS NOT DAUNTED WIN STEWARDS CUP IN BORROWED BOAT. United Prose Assn, by El. Tel. Copyright {Australian l’resa Assn.) (Received Oct. 2S, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 28. The Wanganui Union crew’s racing boat was damaged beyond repair on arrival at Melbourne. The boat was undamaged at Sydney, but appears to have received a heavy knock at the coxswain’s seat, which broke the back of the boat, and badly splintered it fore and aft. The crew used the Melbourne Jlub’s boat, which was satisfactory in the' Henley regatta. In the firstheat of the Stewards challenge cir Wanganui Union defeated Albert Park by four lengths, and in the final the New Zealand crew was first and, Kutherglen second. The visitors won by three lengths. Wanganui Union were never troubled in tinheat or the final, leading from the start. Their powerful log drive and easy body recovery contributed largely to the pace. Critics were favorably impressed with the crew. This was New Zealand's third successive win in the Stewards’ Challenge Cup. Jiealey, the Wanganui stroke, expressed * gratification with the. success.

The weather' was somewhat showery.

Mossman (Sydney) won the senior eights from Mereantiles.
