Two Italian volunteer watersiders were attacked on their way from the wharves with pick handles. Thev. drew knives and slashed their assaifiants, one who was badly injured. The Italians escaped. Seven other volunteers were attacked by a mob at Port Melbourne, hour revolver shots were fired at the volunteers, three of whom were hurt. Acute distress is prevalent among the families of-the waterside workers as the result of the strike, and an appeal has been made by social organisations asking the public to shelter the children of watersiders until normal times return. Four Italians were wounded and eighteen others had remarkable escapes on Saturday night when a bomb was dropped amongst them while playing cards in a house in West Melbourne. Two men wore seen peeping through the window before the explosion, and escaped in a motorcar. Some of the Italians were volunteers on the wharves. The boinb did considerable damage to the room. This is the fifth similar outrage.
