The New York American’s Washington correspondent states that under the recently-passed "White Merchant Marino Bill, under which the Government advances threequarfors of the construction and costs of new merchant vessels, the United States Shipping Board has arranged with private American interests for building in American shipyards. 34 modern steamers for the trans-Atlan-tic and transpacific passenger and freight trade. The vessels range from 12,000 to 30,000 tons, will have a speed of fourteen to thirty knots, and "will he equipped with Diesel engines and electric drive. Further details of the enterprise are being kept secret.
