BANK ACCOUNTANT CHARGED. ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR » TRIAL. cPreaa Association-* NAPIER, Oct. 26. Hercules Robert Hunter, accountant of the Bank of New Zealand, appeared before Mr A. M. Mowlem, S.M., in the Napier Police Court this .morning, to face five charges. Ho was charged fii’st, that on July 13 last at- Napier, he made a false document, to wit a lodgment slip on the Bank of New Zealand, Napier, of a cheque for the sum of £277 2s 6d, drawn on the Bank of New Zea land, Sydney, tlie drawer of the said cheque purporting t° he Hunter and Sons, of Sydney; then knowing the said document to be false, and having tho intention that it should bo "cled upon as genuine, thereby committing forgery. The second charge dated July 17, was. exactly similai to the first, hut related to a cheque for a sum of £372 17s 6d. He was further charged that on July 13, at Napier, in incurring a liability to tho Bank of New Zealand, he did obtain credit to the amount of £277 2s 6d, dy means of fraud, to wit, by tho lodgment of a cheque for. the sum of £277 2s 6d, drawn on the. Bank of New Zealand, Sydney', on the same lodgment slip the drawer of the said cheque being falsely purported to be Hunter and Sons, wherqps the said cheque was, as a fact, drawn by the said Hercules. Robert. Hunter, as administrator of the estate of Mabel 15. Hunter, deceased, and further, the said Hercules Robert Hunter, paving lodged the said cheque with the Bank at-> Napier to be credited to his account, did, by deceit, abstract tho said; cheque from the custody oi the Bank. The fourth charge was similar to the third, having relation to a cheque for £372 17s 6d, the date being July 17. The final charge was that on July 17, and on divers dates between July 17 and August 8 he did, with intent to defraud, obtain divers sums of tnoney amounting in the whole to the sum df -£372 J7s _ 6d from tho Bank of New .Zealand by false pretences, to wit, by valueless cheqli.es. _• v , Detective Sergeant Butler conduct* ed the prosecution and Mr M.
