Dr. D. L. Freeman, of the Department of Agriculture, returned to Napier yesterday after a visit to Gisborne.
Air. Leslie H. Miles, Gisborne manager of Alurray, Roberts and Co., Ltd., returned to Gisborne on Thursday after an extended tour of Great Britain.
In London yesterday ten Labor peers unanimously elected Lord Parmoor leader or the party in succession to Viscount Haldane. —Aust. Press Assn.
At Sydney yesterday, the airman. Kingsford Smith, was granted a decree nisi in his suit against his wife, who is living in West- Australia, on the ground of desertion.—Anst. Press Assn.
The Dailv Chronicle says that while on holiday* at Skegness, Geary, the cricketer, took out an insurance policy against disablement in any match in Australia. He will receive £2O a week until he recovers. —Aust. Trees Assn.
Col. T. W. McDonald, United Party candidate for Wairarapa, opened his campaign last night at Upper Hutt. The meeting was a large and most enthusiastic one. he being cheered to the echo. He maintained thatr the United Party’s policy was the only true one for the benefit of tne country.—Press Assn. Restored to health after a serious illness. Mr. C. H. Williams was warmly welcomed when he resumed his seat at the Poverty Bay Power Board meeting yesterday. On behalf of members, the chairman (Air. F. RBall) expressed pleasure at their colleague’s complete recovery permitting him to resume his duties. These sentiments and also the kind resolution of sympathy previously accorded him by the board, wero much appreciated by Mr. V illiams.
A hearty welcome to Rotarian L. Miles, who has just returned from a visit- to England, was tendered him at the Rotary lunch yesterday by Rotarian President W. Hamilton Irvine, who mentioned that, if Rotarian Miles had not been away he would have been this years president. That honor, it was hoped, he would accept next year. In an appreciative response, Rotarian Allies said it would give him great pleasure to acquaint members with his experiences abroad in the near future. (Applause.)
