HOUSE-BREAKING ADMITTED. TWO AIEN FOR SENTENCE. (Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 25. Arthur James /Connop, 38, who was caught in the house of Sydney Franklin at Alt. Roskill last week, and captured after a struggle, pleaded guilty to-day to breaking and entering and stealing a watch and chain, but denied wilful assault on Franklin. Ho admitted also breaking and entering the office of Aiusebrook and Co., breaking open a safe, and stealing £lO, and also two other charges of breaking and entering. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence on all charges. John Graham, 45, admitted breaking with intent .o enter all ironmongery store in Hobson St. and also the theft of a coat, etc. He also was committed for sentence.
“YOU WANT TO FIGHT?” MAN STRIKES CONSTABLE. (Press Association.) DANNEVIRKE, Oct. 25. A sequel to a case in which James Humphreys, a builder, was the defendant in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, occurred this morning, when Humphreys was charged with assaulting a police constable. He went to the police station yesterday afternoon and complained of _ being followed by women and children. While being questioned by police officers he became resentful and asked: “You want to fight?” and landed: Constable Kearton a blow on the left ear. He wag overpowered and arrested. He was remanded: for a week for medical observation.
