MR. COATES OUTLINES NEW PROPOSALS. promise of Invalidity pensions, LOCAL HATING MUST BE REDUCED. (Special To The Times). DAKG AVILLE,' Oct. 24. Discussing briefly some of the work to'be done in the future,, the Erime Minister at his meeting tonight, gaid the government was determined to do something in the way of invalidity pensions. It was, not right or fail' that the wife and ehildui'eii should suffer when tile breadwinner of the family, through an accident, was rendered unfit for further work. In some cases, the dependants were worse off than if the father were dead. Mr, Coates also said a, question he intended to tackle was that of local rating, which was too big a burden on*, the land. “Some say the governnlent’s taxes t on the land were too high, but they are only a, circumstance compared with some of the local rates,” Mr. Coates added. “We have got the rates down somehow.”
