ADDINGTON YARDS. BETTER) TQNE.INSTORE SHEEP .MARKET. (Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 24. Tliere were somewhat larger entries of fat sheep and fat cattle, and ;a much greater supply of spring lambs at -the Addington market today. The sale was a very keen one throughout, and there was a marked advance in prices for all classes. There were, practically no changes to note in fat sheep values, there being a steady demand throughout. A large entry of spring lambs was disposed of at a reduction of 1/- to 1/6 per head in values.* There was a rather bettor tone in the store sheep market. Store cattle met with good competition, • Eat and store pigs were easier. • A smaller mixed yarding of store sheep came forward, and there was a better sale than the previous week, and fewer passings. ; Adult sheep were firm at late rates, shorn sheep selling comparatively better ■ than those in the wool. Hoggets were inclined to be eafper. The best sale of the. day was a line of 406 threequarterbred ewe hoggets, which made 40/- to 40/3, values being good. Halfbred ewe hoggets sold to 365, shorn half bred ewe hoggets 28s, good threequarterbred ewe hoggets 36s to. 40s 3d, three-quarterbred wether hoggets to 81s 7d; half bred wethers 33s 7d to 33s 9d, shorn 21s 4d to 25s 3d; three-quarterbred wethers to 32s 6d, shorn 22s 4d; halfbred ewes and lambs 20s 3d to 20s 6d ; three-quartern bred ewes and lambs 21s 2d (all counted).
An entry of 307 spring lambs, compared with 240 last week, met with a good sale at 1/- to 1/6 per head lower rates. Values were: Best lambs 32s to 35s 6d, medium 29s to 32s 6d, small J2ss od to 28s.
The yarding of fat sheep Wte larger than last week. There was a steady demand throughout and prices were about on a par with those of the previous week - The range of prices was: Ebctra prime wethers to 5459 d, prime wethers 43s to 47s 6d, prime medium-weight wethers 37s to 42s 6d, medium and unfinished 33s 4d to 36s 6d, prime shorn wethers 32s to 40s 4d, lighter shorn wethers 27s lOd to 3Ls 6d; extra prime ewes, to 51s 4d, prime ewes 36s to 40s, medium ewes 28s to 355, aged and inferior ewes 25s lOd to 27? 6d, shorn ewes 24s 10d to 4-ols lOd; hoggets, shorn, 23s Id to 26s 7d. The yarding of fat cattie totalled 495. The quality of a large proportion of the offerings was better. The market opened with keen competition, and at an advance on the previous week’s rates. The supply, although larger than last week, was evidently not equal to requirements and all classes were in demand right up' to the end of the sale. The advance in prices was anywhere from £1 to £2 per head, and m some cases more. Extra prime handy weight steer and heifer beef was equal to 5Ls to. oos ; average prime steer beef 47s fo 60s; medium 41s 6d to 465 ; plain heavy steer 38s 6d to. 43s ; prime • cow and ■ heifer -beef 46s to 49s fid, medium 41s 6d to 455, and rough down to'3‘2s per 100-lbs. Values were: Extra prime steers to £23 2s fkl, prime steers £2O to £2l 10s, medium steers £lB to £l9 15s, ordinary steers £l4 to £l7 15s; extra prime heifers to £lB 17s 6d, pi'ime heifers £ls 10s to £l7 10s, ordinary heifers £8 7s 6d to £l)s ss-. extra prime cows to £l7 17s 6d, prime cows £l4 IQs to £l6 15s, mectiuili cows £ll to £l4 ss, aged and inferior cows £7 7s 6d to £lO 15s.
Good vealers were jn short supply, and sold well, over-sorts showing a decline in last week’s prices. Values were :Yearlings to 2-year-olds to £9 18s 6d; good vealers £7 to £9, medium vealers £3 10s to £6 10s; small calvse 10s to £2 10s. There was a fair entry of store cattle, made up as usual chiefly of cows, with a_ few big steers and a couple of pens of yearlings to 18months steers and heifeiis. Values were: Three. and four-year-old steers £lO to £l2, yearling 2-year steers and heifers £4 7s to £4 11s; good .cows £5 to £7, medium £3 to £4 15s, aged cows 30s to £2 15s; bulls £5 to £B7 A medium ‘ yarding of moderate quality dairy cows met with a good demand at late rates. Values were: Best second, third and fourth calvors £B. to. £l2 15s, medium sorts £6 to £7 lbs, inferior and old cows in piofit £3 to £5 15s; heifers £5 to £7 ss. A medium entry of fat pigs sold at slightly easier rates. Values were: Choppers 30s to £4 8s 6d; light baconers £3 to £3 12s fkl, heavy baconers £4 to £4 6s 6d—average pn.ee per lb. yj-d to ; light porkers 35s to 435. heavy porkers 46s to 57s (xl—average price per lb. o.fd to 7.fd. There was a medium entry of si ore pigs and the market opened on a par with last week’s rates, but collapsed later. Values were: Small baconers 7s to 10s, good baconers 12s to 15s: small stores 14s to 17s, medium stores 18s to 245, large stores 26s to 345, extra large stores to 36s 6d.
WESTFIELD MADKET. (Frees association.) AUCKLAND. Oct. 21. At Westfield, barely an average yarding of ox beef came forward, which sold under steady competition at late rates. The hulk of the yarding comprised ot well-finished cattle. An average yarding of cow and heifer beef came forward, which sold readily at prices firm on last week. Heavy cows and heifers made £9 17s 6d to £ll 6s, medium sorts £8 10s to-£8 I7s 6d: extra choice ox sold to 4os per 100-ll>., choice and prime 42s to 445; prime young cow and heifer beef 40s, just kiliable 80s to 345. Sheep.—More than an average yarding came forward. Competition was fairly steady throughout, and prices ruling were about on a par with last week’s. Extra heavy prime wethers, woolly, 42s Gd, shorn 375; heavy prime wholly 40s. shorn 34s 6d ; medium woolly 38s, shorn 32s 9d; heavy prime ewes, shorn 29s 3d; lighter woolly 32s 9d, shorn 27s 3d; other ewes, shorn 23s 6d. Lambs’.—An average yarding oi spring lambs game forward, which sold at late rates. Heavy prune lambs made 28s 3d, medium' 27s 6d, light 265. Calves were yarded in large numbers and sold freely at prices on a par with last sale. Heavy vealers £4 10s-to £5 os, medium £3 10s ,to £4 6s, light £2 2s to £3 6s, rough £.l 5s td £1 15s, small 12s to 20s. Pigs sold at values equal to the previous sale. Heavy baeohers made £3 10s to £3 15s ; heavy porkers £2 8s to £2 12s •; medium baconers. £3 to £3 8s; medium porkers £2 2s to £2'Gs; light: baconers £2 14s to £2 ! l8s; light porkers' £1 IGs to £2.
