DANNEVIRKE, Oct. 24. James Hurren, a travelling salesman, was charged before Mr J. H. Miller, S.M., with haying driven a motor car negligently. The accused, on July 29, on a perfectly straight road between Norsewood and Takapau. ran into a car travelling in the opposite direction. It was _ alleged that he was on the wrong side. ■ Tlie magistrate said there was no reason at all for the accident. The case had been proved to the hilt. The defendant was a menace to the fpiblic. Ho would be fined £2O, and his license cancelled: for one year. Ho had previously, at Gisborne, been fined £25 for a breach of tlie motor regulations. CHARGE AGAINST SOLICITORS (Press Assooiation.) CHRISTCHURCH. Oct. 24. In the Magistrate’s Court to-day Percival •' L. O. Inder and Samuel Ernest McCarthy, of Christchurch, solicitors, wore charged with not banking' certain sums ranging from £1 Ids to £5 in a separate trust account. There were three separate charges against each defendant. - The hearing was adjourned until Friday. THEFT RY YO'UNG- WOMAN AN UNUSUAL CASE (Press Association.) WELLINGTON. Oct. 24. Losing her father'a month ago a girl of 21 became the support of her mother and brother.' She was engaged to be married and on going into a second-hand shop in Wellington with the intention of buying a pair of. shoes she succumbed to the temptation, taking away a handbag, which she thought might contain money which would help to buy her trousseau. However, it contained a number of rings, a gold medal, and a £5 note. She pawned the jewellery, which subsequently > helped tho police to recover. Mr El. Page, 5.M.,. in comitting her for sentence, agreed to the suppression of her name.
