Floods are increasing on the Madras coast, and are the worst for twenty years. The countryside is inundated for hundreds of miles. Villages and homesteads are completely obliterated and it is feared there is heavy loss'of life and cattle. Long stretches of railway line, bridges and stations have been demolished.
The rainfall was sixteen inches during the week-end. All telegraphic traffic, has heen dislocated.
