POVERTY BAY CLUB MEETING

Delegates to the Gisborne centre, on behalf of • the club, were appointed as fpllow: Messrs A. A. Anderson, ~M. Parkinson and C, J. Hyland. : Reference was made to the death of .Mr George Hawkins, of Opotiki, who 'had been a keen supporter of dog trials and had also officiated as judge at;. Poverty Bay - trials. Tlio secretary - (Mr T. Ellery) reported that, on behalf of the Club, he had forwarded a wreath and letter ol condolence to Mrs Hawkins. This
action was confirmed, members cx- . pressing sympathy with Mrs Hawkins in her sad loss. .The work -of the honorary secretary during the past year was referred to in very complimentary terms and ,a vote of thanks to Air EUerv was passed with acclamation. A vote of thanks to the chair then closed the meeting.

NEW RULES FAVORED
A meeting of delegates from the various do«- trial clubs m the Gis borne distinct was held lart evenmg in the -Masonic Hall. Parkinson was V °The that the meeting had been called with a view to securing uniform action by district clubs on a suggested scheme of revised rules forwarded by the North Island Association for consideration. The speaker considered that new rules were undoubtedly necessary and that o uly those particularly applicable, to the district should be entertained- Nine clubs were represented at the meeting, and it should be possibles. to ; :. decide fairly accurately 1 vrhat .Would suit the district best in the way of. new rules. When the North Island Association met at H/awera, the matter of which rules should be enforced would be decided by : delegates from the various clubs and it was desirable that all Gisborne delegates-.should vote together in this matter...
The secretary (Mr T. Ellery) the a read the several sets of alternative rules.- forwarded by- the North Island Association and a general; discussion on-these, followed, the meeting ultimately resolving, by eight votes to one, to support what was termed “Proposal 1?” in the communication lrom the North Island Association. The msun’feature of the proposal favored was that the holding ol a centre championship each year was provided for, with cups and trophies awarded bv the centre. The North Island meeting would be held here once in seven years under this scheme. The delegates were practically unanimous that' “Proposal B” was the onjy one worth real consideration so fa?--as" this district was concerned. A number of suggested alterations and additions to general rules relating to dog trials, also forwarded by the North Island: Association, were considered and the meeting decided in favor of a number of these..
