SPLENDID CONTESTS PROMISED

Bright a.nd interesting boxing, with some of the finest amateurs yet seen in Gisborne in action, will he presented at the Garrison Hall tomorrow evening when the Gisborne Boxing Association stages, an amateur tournament. In addition to all the local “stars”, a number of leading amateurs from other parts of the Dominion will be seen in the ring, additional interest being given to the. various contests by matching local men with the visitors, • The programme is a lengthy one, and every arrangement is being made for the convenience of patrons. The very fine new ring, which was built under the supervision of Tom Heeney and used with such success at the recent cadets’ tournament, fiwill again he utilised. thus ensuring that everyone in the hall will have a clear view of the whole of each match. Of the individual contests, that between the heavyweights, “Pansy’ Wells,,the; undefeated Bay of Plenty champion, and Maliunga Brown, of ■local fame, should nrovide some' of the greatest thrills of the evening. Both are heavy hitters, and fond of open work, so that their four-round; “go” will prove of the greatest interest.

In a special eix-round contest,; Jackson, ’ a AYellington star, and Costello, of Matawai, , should give another highly entertaining display, which should ho fought at a very fast pace. Other men new to the local ring will .ho attending from AVairoa, East' Coast and Motu. Day, sale tickets may be purchased at .Miller’s Corner and arrangements have been made for applications for, membership of the G.B.A. to ho received there also.
